I totally disagree with the Perfect Dark segment. The company to fix Perfect dark would be Crytek. They own free radical now. Free radical was a studio founded by the members of Rare that created goldeneye and Perfect dark for the N64.
After forming Free radical, they rebuilt the Goldeneye/perfect dark engine and created Timesplitters.
After 3 amazing games in that series, they failed massively with Haze and later on went under. Shortly after, they were bought by Crytek. <...
THANK YOU!
People who don't understand what a "Gen" of gaming is are just funny to me.
It has nothing to do with power folks. Tech is irrelevant.
It's all about what console succeeds another and when they come out. Video game history is littered with consoles that were not as powerful as other consoles it shared a generation with.
Example: The TG-16 used an 8-bit microprocessor as its CPU. But 8-bit tech was considered 3rd Gen. Many thought it was an under power...
Brilliant Idea! And then someday when that content is no longer supported, you will lose it all.
Or do you think that all the digitally distributed games you buy today will still be accessible 10, 15, or 20 years down the road?
Or god forbid you get rid of your console and lose all that money you spent on games that you cant trade, sell, or even give away when you're done.
Give me physical media every time. I like to own something for the dollars I spend...
LOL, I love how passionately people rage against the 360 because owners may have to swap a disc here and there.
Does anyone here remember how much the PS1 version of RE2 sucked compared to the N64 version because you had to swap discs? Of course you don't. Because it didn't matter. LOL
a big chunk of my PS1 collection is made up of multi disc games. I didn't care then and I still don't.
@darthv72
You're completely right.
And the fact is that HD DVD didn't really "Lose", they were out spent by the blu ray disc association when they went to warner and bought their exclusivity for $500 million.
BUT, the fact is that BD AND any other format on the market now is already obsolete. The 6tb Holographic Versatile Disc ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
@Muerte2494
You're posting Shipped PS3 numbers, not sold.
And yes, that is combined with recent PS2 sales figures.
Whats the purpose of that?
"One word PLAYSTATION"?
The question of whether the PS3 has actually outsold the 360 is very debatable.
In November of 2012 SCE announced that they sold 70 million units and they just announced that in FY 2012 they SHIPPED 16.5 million.
Nut nowhere have we seen sales figures. I'm ...
@Muerte2494
Sorry, I didn't mean to say "I don't agree that the PS3 will "obviously sell over 90 million".
Not sure what I was thinking there. I DO agree that it can achieve 90 million, But I DON'T think it can outsell the Wii before this gen is over. Not with the Wii still selling, even if it's not selling gangbusters, it still is inexpensive and has forward momentum.
80.4 million ps3's have not sold. That's how many hav...
@SHORYUKEN
Seriously? you think the PS3 is going to outsell the Wii this gen? I don't think there's any chance of that.
Also, even if it did, the PS3 will never earn Sony a profit on the level the Wii achieved for Nintendo. There is already a clear winner this Gen and it's Nintendo. In terms of Sales and Profits, they have demolished both Sony and MS this gen
As for the 360, it will likely stay in production for some time after the next xbox syste...
I love that someone disagrees with facts!
1. Did the PS3 cost Sony $2.3 billion in it's first year? Yes. In fact it took around $4.3 billion in losses by the end of the 2009 fiscal year. (as reported by Sony in their annual reports.)
2. Did it take 4 years for the PS3 hardware to become profitable? Yes!
As reported in 2010 when Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said:
"This year is the first time that we are able to cover the cost of t...
Sony lost 2.3 billion in it's first year with the PS3 and didn't turn a profit for 4 years on the console. of course it's going to be more profitable. they aren't going to shoot themselves in the foot again!
Also, the BD tech is a LOT cheaper now.
Isn't this a no brainer? Seriously, did anyone need an article to learn this? LOL
Folks there is a difference between "Shipped" and "Sold"
Yes, they have shipped 80.4 million units. and yes, some of those are PS2 consoles.
Sure, they have stopped producing the PS2, but they are still shipping them. or is someone here silly enough to think that when they stopped making them, that they emptied out their warehouses and washed their hands of the most profitable and best selling game console of all time instead of keeping a backstock to cont...
I believe both the PS1 and PS2 made profits as their successors were announced and launched as well.
Graphic, Graphics, Graphics! welcome to the land of "nothing Else Matters!"
First and foremost, I haven't seen anything so far that makes me feel like I'm "Blown away" sure some is impressive, but aside from Capcom's demo at the PS4 announcement, I wasn't really into that much of it.
Secondly, I'm concerned with a lot more for the next gen than I am with graphics. I'm certain that the graphics whores and casual gamers want to hear th...
updated to tell us this is satire? But written as a perfectly serious article?
I don't see the joke. this just seems to succeed in providing false information.
ok, lets say 7.9gb per disc. Thats still 55.3gb (The difference is only .64gb) for 7 discs. 5.3gb more than a BD can hold.
So once again, subtract almost 1 disc from that estimate of 7.
It's really not "Bollocks" at all. Most of the data on all PS3 games is uncompressed for faster read times. It's a known fact. I read about it ages ago in Ars Technica (while MGS4 was in production)and it hasn't changed since then as the hardware specs on the cons...
All this talk about the Next Xbox being always on. Get real people it's not gonna happen.
Sure it'll be required to be on for all it's app and media functionality. But to play games it'll be just like any other Game console. No internet connection "Required" to play games.
If games that require online in order to function come out, that will be up to the developer.
It's far more likely that EA would release an always on game than it is th...
A compressed version of the game could be stored on an HDD and take up a whole lot less space than 50gb and play just like the original.
Also, the game could easily be made on as few as few as two DVD9s with a mandatory install (like the PS3 has)
Also, you're right about the 360 being able to play the game itself. Kojima said before that the 360 is capable. In the end, the bigger problem would be eliminating/changing all the PS3/sony references in the game.
7 discs is totally inaccurate. It could totally be done on 3. Let me explain my logic.
A DVD9 can hold up to 8.54gb.
So, 7 discs would be 59.78gb The BD doesn't hold that much information.so right off, there's more than 1 DVD less than 7.
Also, on the BD a great deal of the MGS4 (or any game for that matter) data is uncompressed (for faster read times) where as DVD compression Technology would allow for the compression of much more Data than on the BD.

Why was the Neo Geo Buried and the Dreamcast alive? LOL
